SCHOOL OF NURSING

The School of Nursing, Duncan Hospital was established in 1955. It was the prayer and hard work of the nurses at that time,Nursing Superintendent Mrs Irene Stephenson, which led to the establishment of this school with an annual intake of 10 ANM students per batch The School of Nursing (SON) was started with the objective to develop undergraduate teaching programs, to cater needs of Bihar and the neighbouring states of our country. In 1968 the school of Nursing was upgraded to GNM program since then, the School has grown from strength to strength and has produced many competent nurses who are committed to the noble profession and they are serving in India and abroad .Its strategic location in the Indo-Nepal border attracts students from both Nepal and India.

 School of Nursing Duncan Hospital Raxaul is the oldest school in the East Champaran district of Bihar. The course offered by the School of Nursing at present is the General Nursing Midwifery (GNM), under the Bihar Nursing Registration Council which is affiliated to the Mid India Board of Education

School of Nursing is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) to conduct the aforementioned nursing courses. Highly competent and experienced nursing faculty and few medical and allied health professionals are associated to train our students.

GENERAL NURSING & MIDWIFERY (GNM)

The General Nursing Midwifery program is a 3-year course. The student, on completion of the GNM program will develop competency in providing care to individuals either in the hospital or in the community and is licensed to practice nursing. He/ She will also develop basic skills in teaching patients, in administration and leadership while working with other members of the health team and community.

THE CORE SUBJECTS:

First year include Foundations of Nursing, Biological Sciences, Behavioural Sciences, Computer Education, Community Health Nursing-I and English.

 Second Year comprises of subjects such as Medical Surgical Nursing, Mental Health and and Child Health Nursing.

Third year, the subjects include Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing, Community Health Nursing II. Nursing Education, Introduction to Research, Professional trends and adjustments. Nursing Administration and Ward Management.

ELIGlBILlTY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO GNM

Minimum qualification

10 +2 with English and must have obtained a minimum of 40% at the qualifying examination and English individually from any recognized board. Candidates are also eligible from state Open school recognised by state Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government however science is preferable.

10 +2 with English having 40% of marks in Vocational ANM Course from the school recognized by the Indian Nursing Council.

10+2 with English having 40% of marks in Vocational Stream -Health care Science from a recognized CBSE board/State/ Centre.

Registered ANM with Pass Mark.

Admission of students shall be once a year

Students should be medically fit

Minimum age for admission will be 17 years (As on 31st December of that year) The Upper age limit is 35 yrs. For ANM/No age Bar.

Foreign national need to obtain equivalent certificate from The Association of Indian Universities New Delhi for the study purpose only.
